Ghale Gaun

Standing at an elevation of 2100m, Ghale Gaun is the first “Smart Village” of Nepal situated in the Lamjung District. The beautiful village with Gurung Settlement is surrounded by Annapurna Circuit and offers the splendid view of Mount Machhapuchare (6693m), Mount Annapurna (8091m), Mount Annapurna II(7939m), Mount Annapurna IV (7525m), Mount Lamjung, Mount Bouddha (6974m), and Himalchuli (6747m). The smart village is popular for Home Stay and preserves the typical culture and lifestyles of Gurung people.

Visitors to Ghale Gaun are welcomed very warmly and cultural and traditional dances are held every night around 8-9pm. The villagers depart their guests offering the Tika and Garland with very warm hospitality. Nepali New year and Buddha Jayanti are widely celebrated with a traditional dance called Ghantu.

One can easily reach the smart village from Kathmandu around 7-8 hours. There’s no direct bus available towards the village, so one must first travel to Besisahar and then change the vehicle from Besisahar to Ghale Gaun. Although very few local buses are in function towards Ghale Gaun from Besisahar, it’s difficult to catch it due to inconsistent timing. But Bolero frequently takes the guest towards the village so one can easily get to the village without much effort. As the road towards the village is quite an in condition, one might even travel there in Bike, but might be difficult in the rainy season.

Ghale Gaun also serves as the famous trekking destination. Trekkers commence their trek from Khudi the gateway to Annapurna Circuit. The village can be reached within the walk of 3-4 hours, the trails offer the superb view of mountains including the Annapurna Range with the beautiful villages on the way.
