Kalinchowk Hike

Kalinchowk serves as the best destination for snow lovers as it gets the huge snowfall during winter and is situated near Kathmandu Valley in the Dolakha district. Kalinchowk also has its own cultural values as it houses the famous Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple which is located on the top of a hill at the altitude of 3842m. Kalinchowk receives thousands of devotees each year who comes to offer their prayers to Bhagwati Temple. Besides that, a lot of travelers visit Kalinchowk to witness the super mountain ranges along with the splendid sunrise views over the Himalayas. It offers a stunning view of Mt Gaurishankar, Jugal, and Annapurna & Everest.

Take a bus from Old Buspark to Charikot and spend the night at Charikot. The next day early in the morning take a vehicle(usually Mahindra Bolera-4 seater excluding the driver) to Kuri (base station of Kalinchowk) as no public vehicle is available one must hire this vehicle to reach Kuri. The cost of hiring a vehicle ranges from Rs. 4000 to 6000 since it’s not a passenger service and you should reserve it, which takes around 2 hours to reach Kuri. The hike lovers can also hike to Kuri from Charikot which takes around 5 hours, hiking is slightly challenging, but the spectacular trail with the majestic mountain panorama worth it. To hike ascends from Charikot and reach Deurali, and then start to walk through the jungle, leaving the motor road. One can easily find the hiking trail following the electricity transmission line, and water pipeline. It takes around 4 hours from Deurali to reach Kuri.

Kuri is situated at an altitude of 2700m which is nearly equal to the altitude of Jomsom with the facilities of hotels with a clean room and comfortable beds, electricity, and mobile networks. Explore the beautiful village and spend the night. The next morning early in the morning ascends towards Kalinchowk situated at an altitude of 3842m which is equivalent to the altitude of Muktinath Temple. If one wants to witness the spectacular sunrise it is suggested to proceed early in the morning. The hill can be conquered within an hour and a half, but a slow pace of the walk is suggested since ascending around a 1000m of altitude within an hour might be dangerous because of altitude sickness. Upon reaching the hill spend some quality time witnessing the majestic mountain panorama. You may also have a cup of tea enjoying the chill weather as tea shops are available at the top of the hill. Later descend down to Kuri and then get back to Charikot. Take the Bus from Charikot and return back to Kathmandu. The last bus to Kathmandu from Charikot leaves at 3 pm.

One can also visit Kalinchowk using the vehicle as mentioned above. Take Bolero from Charikot all the way to Kuri. From Kuri, you may also visit Kalinchowk through Cabel Car these days. The cable car service is 1km long and the fare is Rs 500 person for a round trip.
